What a treat to experience Afrosonics at Boise’s Treefort Music Festival. This band is an interesting collection of Africa (Lagos, Nigeria) and Idaho. Dayo Ayodele and Todd Dunnigan formed the unexpected collection of musicians. They play music that combines big band sound with African influence. Their songs are groovy and engaging. One song, Che Che Kule, is a call and response with the audience where Dayo teaches the crowd an African saying, Che Che Kule. He and the audience go back and forth chanting the saying all the while the band provides background music. It escalates to a crescendo where the band and the audience are all chanting and throwing their hands in the air.

Their overall sound reminded me of The Crazy 8’s and the Mighty Mighty Bostones, but with more emphasis on African sound and culture. Their sound is big and fun and forces you to move.

The best part of enjoying Afrosonics was learning that the band is local and I will have many more opportunities to see them again. Cheers!
