We all have that experience- there are lots of items in our house which we did not use for years, and we come to know about them while moving to another house. At that time, they become a burden to collect and shift. To solve this problem, you can think about giving them to someone who needs them.  This will not only help you get rid of extra burden but also make you feel happy for helping others.

Lets us have a look at how your household goods are accepted and used by charities:

Furniture:

Furniture is one of the common items available in every house. But, at the time of moving, there are lots of such articles which are too big to carry to another place. There are many charities who accept your old or unused furniture and give them to help people with low income. Many of them also accept building material alongside wooden furniture which is used to build houses for homeless people and others.

Clothes and Dresses

There would be lots of clothes or dresses in your house which you do not use. They remain inside a wardrobe or almirah for many years without a single touch. You can give them to some charity, homeless shelter, thrift store, religious center, or community outreach centers.

Charities accept them as per the look and condition of these clothes. The professional clothes are given to low-income professionals or poor women who need them to wear during interviews. Whereas, less used textiles are used in hospitals, shelters, clinics, etc.

Small Household Objects

The small household objects such as kitchenware, linens, rugs, electronic items, books, bed sheets, towels, mattresses, etc. can be given to charities who accept them according to their conditions. The small household items and electronic items are often accepted by organizations that also accept furniture. Whereas, books can be given to a library, Excel Center, local school, or veterans. The objects like a bed sheet, towel, linen can be given to a local animal shelter which helps animals stay protected in all situations.

Do donation centers help to pick up articles from a place?

Maximum donation centers help you to pick up big objects like vehicles, furniture, air conditioners, etc. They send their volunteers or laborers to pick them up from the area where you have dropped these articles. Some include the charges within your charity whereas others do not. It is good to make a phone call to different charities or visit their websites to get an idea about the articles they accept.

It is also important to remember to try to give only those objects which can be reused without difficulty. Try to avoid giving stained, torn, ripped clothes, spoiled electrical items, broken pots/furniture, etc. It is better to give useless items to centers that recycle them and make them worthy for different purposes.

In this way, giving charity to donation centers provides you with an opportunity to help someone in a difficult time. At the same time, the process of moving becomes easy for you.
