Liz Cheney has become a lightning rod on the right, even though she is very conservative. Because she rejected MAGA and Trumpism, she was defeated in her reelection bid in the deep red Wyoming. Who is she?

Liz Cheney is an American politician and attorney who currently serves as the U.S. Representative for Wyoming's at-large congressional district, a position she has held since 2017. She is a member of the Republican Party and is currently the third-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives. Cheney is also the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney.

In May 2021, Cheney was removed from her leadership position as the Chair of the House Republican Conference due to her criticism of former President Donald Trump's false claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election and his role in the January 6, 2021 Capitol insurrection. Cheney was one of ten Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for his role in inciting the insurrection. Her removal from leadership has sparked a debate within the Republican Party about its direction and loyalty to Trump.
